Using space exploration as a theme, the Challenger Learning Center of Lockport creates positive learning experiences that raise students’ expectations for success, as well as foster a long-term interest in science technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) to motivate them into careers in these fields.  This class will focus on activities on Solar energy; the Earth’s tilt, seasons, and the angle of insulation; an engineering challenge/craft on designing a solar cooker/solar panel.

Yoga with Brandi Silsby

Children will learn about breathing and visualization and be introduced to yoga poses that will focus on improving coordination, creating strength and increasing flexibility. While learning these techniques, they are also taught to respect their bodies and themselves as well as others.

Tennis Clinic with Brandon Reid

The Kenan tennis clinic is a celebration of a game where no one sits out, boys and girls have equal footing and kids learn a great game and make greater friendships. With a staged approached to learning, they’ll grow on and off the court. Children are asked to bring their own rackets but a small number of rackets are available for use.

Drama Games for Kids with Jennifer Simpson

Dramatic activity is already a natural part of most children’s lives through make-believe play. Learn the basic art of drama through games for breaking the ice, physical warm-ups, group dynamics and encouraging creativity. Explore how voice, facial expression, movement and space can be used to create a character and communicate meaning.
