Policing the Erie Canal

Lt. Johnathan Anderson will present a rousing story about policing during the Erie Canal era. He serves on the Onondaga Sheriff’s Department and has been the department’s honorary historian for many years.

This program will cover many topics related to the Canal, including the Underground Railroad and the captivating Canal Boy’s Saga – the true story about the cultural and financial growth the Erie Canal had on nearby New York communities, and the increase of juvenile crime around the Canal during that time. A Q & A discussion will take place afterward in what is sure to be an exciting narrative journey.
